What is Invisalign?

Invisalign transformed the dental industry several years ago. Prior to Invisalign, patients that required orthodontics to correct alignment issues required traditional metal braces. Many teens and adults would not consider these braces for many reasons.

Invisalign is a series of clear comfortable plastic aligners that are custom created to gently fit over teeth to correct problems with tooth alignment.

What is the Process for Invisalign?

If you have esthetic or functional desires for your teeth, a discussion with Dr. Lacy or Dr. Rich may result in the decision that Invisalign may be the best treatment or part of the best treatment. They will thoroughly discuss the process and expected results.

Next, impressions will be made and photographs taken. This information will allow the doctors and the technicians at Invisalign to create a series of aligners based on Dr. Rich or Dr Lacy’s instructions for tooth movement. A week or so later, the patient has the opportunity to view a digital “movie” of their teeth straightening, aligner by aligner. This gives the patient an opportunity to see exactly what they are buying before committing to treatment. Finally, the series of custom aligners will be delivered to the office. Each aligner is worn for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. Each aligner will build on the progress obtained from the previous until the desired results are complete.

Invisalign vs. Traditional Orthodontics

Although Invisalign cannot correct major skeletal or dental problems, it does have some terrific benefits over traditional braces:

If you are unhappy with your smile, we would be happy to discuss the option of Invisalign as the sole treatment or as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. You may find that it is easier than you imagined.
