What is Invisalign?
Invisalign transformed the dental industry several years ago. Prior to Invisalign, patients that required orthodontics to correct alignment issues required traditional metal braces. Many teens and adults would not consider these braces for many reasons.
Invisalign is a series of clear comfortable plastic aligners that are custom created to gently fit over teeth to correct problems with tooth alignment.
What is the Process for Invisalign?
If you have esthetic or functional desires for your teeth, a discussion with Dr. Lacy or Dr. Rich may result in the decision that Invisalign may be the best treatment or part of the best treatment. They will thoroughly discuss the process and expected results. Next, impressions will be made and photographs taken. This information will allow the doctors and the technicians at Invisalign to create a series of aligners based on Dr. Rich or Dr Lacy’s instructions for tooth movement. A week or so later, the patient has the opportunity to view a digital “movie” of their teeth straightening, aligner by aligner. This gives the patient an opportunity to see exactly what they are buying before committing to treatment. Finally, the series of custom aligners will be delivered to the office. Each aligner is worn for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. Each aligner will build on the progress obtained from the previous until the desired results are complete.
Invisalign vs. Traditional Orthodontics
Although Invisalign cannot correct major skeletal or dental problems, it does have some terrific benefits over traditional braces:
- No painful wire adjustment visits
- Nearly invisible aligners – no silver brackets or wires!
- Removability provides for optimal ability to clean teeth
- Removability provides for a totally non-restricted diet
- Only progress visits are required
- No permanent tooth damage from inability to clean underneath brackets
If you are unhappy with your smile, we would be happy to discuss the option of Invisalign as the sole treatment or as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. You may find that it is easier than you imagined.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?
We’ll be able to provide you with an estimate for the cost of Invisalign in Bonita Springs when you attend your consultation. The price will depend on how many aligners you will need, whether you will require any special attachments, and other factors. In some cases, insurance may cover a portion of Invisalign’s cost. It is also eligible for financing through CareCredit, which offers a number of low-interest and no-interest installment plans.
What Should I Do if I Accidentally Damage an Aligner?
Do not try to force a warped or broken aligner back onto your teeth. Instead, give us a call right away. If you were only a few days away from being able to move on to the next aligner in your series, we might suggest that you begin to wear it a little earlier than planned. Or, if you were closer to the beginning of your time with the damaged aligner, we might recommend that you go back to wearing a previous aligner until we can order a replacement for you.
What Types of Dental Misalignment Can Invisalign Correct?
Invisalign is capable of correcting a variety of dental alignment issues, including crowded teeth, gapped teeth, rotated teeth, overbite, underbite, crossbite, and more. When you come in for your consultation, your dentist will carefully assess the positioning of your teeth and let you know whether Invisalign is an appropriate option for your unique situation.
How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?
The average treatment time with Invisalign is about 12 months. However, your Invisalign journey may be shorter than that, or it may be longer. Your treatment timeline will depend on how far your teeth must move, how diligent you are about wearing your aligners, and other factors.
Does Invisalign Cause Pain?
Invisalign is more comfortable than traditional metal braces, but you can still expect a little bit of soreness, particularly when you switch to a new aligner. Sipping on cool water, taking an over the counter pain reliever, and switching to a new aligner at night can all help to mitigate any discomfort.
